Political and Moral Philosophy

Person in Charge of the Project : Yasutake MiyashiroThis project aims to develop research in the field of humanities such as philosophy at SFC. It consists mainly of two branches. In Seminar 1, we read and discuss fundamental literature especially on political philosophy and ethics. During the autumn semester 2017, discussion is based on an extensive reading of Tocqueville's "Democracy in America" (originally published 1835/1840) in order to think about important issues of democracy from philosophical perspective (What is democracy, and what ought it to be?). Seminar 2 is designed for students who are undertaking their own research project, and provides them with the opportunity to make presentations on their topics, and to get some feedback from other members.
