Visuo-Tactile Mobile Display for Representing One's Feelings

Person in Charge of the Project : Kazuki SakuradaThis project aims at developing an affective haptic technology for smartphones. Embodied information such as facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice of the sender is usually omitted in text messaging and social network services. Embodied information could help us to infer what the speaker actually feels during the conversation. To achieve better communication experience between the sender and receiver, we integrated a smartphone with a high definition vibrotactile device for conveying non-verbal information through tactile channel.

Sense of Affective Environment through Audio-Haptic Feedback

Person in Charge of the Project : Masashi NakataniThis project aims at representing environmental information using cross modal (audio-tactile) interaction. One person can feel comfortable hearing 3D sound and receiving breeze in natural environment. In order to provide such rich sense of atmosphere in the environment, we demonstrate a prototype system that plays back spatial sound with haptic feedback.
