Under the influence of COVID-19, the nature of research design has been changing. In particular, qualitative research methods such as fieldwork and interviews, which depend heavily on the researcher's mobility and proximity to the informant, need to be reconsidered under various constraints. On the other hand, the past year and a half have seen a surge in online communication opportunities. As a result, we can expect new possibilities in collaboration and joint work with overseas institutions regarding online communication characteristics. The present exhibit attempts to sort out the current issues and present a vision for the future of research design.
