An amoeba behaves like a substance having attributes of information and processes information having attributes of substance. Is it possible to bridge the gap between the cyber and physical spaces by creating artificial systems that are inspired by the amoeba? Creating a soft robot that flexibly changes its shape like the amoeba, we are aiming at realizing the robust abilities to respond to unexpected situations happening in the physical space. Our amoeba-inspired soft robot will lead to the platform for activating the substance that makes right decision according to stored knowledge and for handling the information that has mass and volume to transmit forces to move objects.
