Person in Charge of the Project : Yuko TakedaIn order to ensure best practices, this laboratory aims for (1) practical research and development promoting best practice quality, (2) the nurturing of nursing leaders who can spread and utilize specific and appropriate best practices into the workplace, and (3) the exploration of ethical best practices that respect the values of all parties involved.

Laboratory on Innovative Research and Practices for Nursing; Challenges of WaKaBa

Person in Charge of the Project : Ryoko KobayashiThe Laboratory on Innovative Research and Practices for Nursing (WAKABA-no-kai) was founded to encourage young investigators to improve their research ability through observance of their potential. Investigators with different areas of expertise are involved in creative research taking advantage of flexible mindset and unremitting energy, which are unique to the youth. The interdisciplinary activities are expected to contribute to the future development of nursing care and the enrichment of nursing education. Their current projects and activities will be discussed in the Open Research Forum.

The effect of a horticultural activities program for the community elderly

Person in Charge of the Project : Junko MasuyaAs the number of elderly people in Japan has increased, measures to prevent dementia are currently considered important. As part of a larger investigation of activities that might contribute to health and the prevention of dementia in the elderly, this project focused on horticultural activities as one non-pharmacologic therapy. We are practicing the approach to spread horticultural activities in dementia care, and in the SFC Open Research Forum (ORF), we introduce study results on the effect of a horticultural activities program for the community elderly.

Effect of care by Certified Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing on Depressive Cancer Patients

Person in Charge of the Project : Kiyoka NozueIn our project we are studying to improve the mental health of people with physical disorders. We are studying the mental state of patients with physical disorders and development and evaluation of nursing care programs and educational programs for nurses. This time we introduce the research which evaluated the effect of nursing care by certified nurse specialist in psychiatric mental health nursing on depressive cancer patients.

Nursing Support for Hereditary Cancer Patients and their Family

Person in Charge of the Project : Yuko TakedaHereditary cancer is characterized by early onset and multiple cancers. Responsible genes in hereditary cancers were identified and DNA testing enabled the diagnosis at risk individuals. The prognosis of most cancers can be improved by early diagnosis and early treatment. Nurses involved in this field need to increase their depth of knowledge of genetics and embrace their role in providing appropriate assistance to patients and families.
