SFC believes that sharing its achievements with the public is one of its greatest obligations. In order to do so, SFC holds the SFC Open Research Forum every year, presenting their results far and wide to all of society. In this forum, future prospects and results of many ongoing research projects at SFC are introduced to industries, national and local governments through exhibitions and sessions.
Please stop by the general reception at the entrance of Hall B1F before entering the SFC Open Research Forum 2018.
What carries us to faraway places and lures us into the great flow of time is imagination. Let us not wait to envision the society “after the next societies” today. Society is a collection of complex relations that are constantly being rearranged, such as the flow of things and information, technology and life, meeting and separating from others, the movement of people, our perception of time, and sentiment for places. Let us imagine the many places they will go. To do so, we need imagination.
Imagination begins in the field, and we must always remain engaged there as direct experience best reveals what is needed “after the next societies.” In other words, learning is the result of the constant trying of new things, and as we create while thinking, and think while creating, the cycle sharpens our minds.
It is my wish that we will tolerate failure and always encourage bold ideas and the constant trying of new things. The spirit of experimentation calls us to adventure, and this year once again, many unique individuals will come together at the SFC Open Research Forum. Let us talk with one another and create a place where we can demonstrate how we use our imaginations for the society “after the next societies.”
