In the context of Japan’s super-aging society, what can be done to ensure that Japan’s elderly will be able to live rewarding lives according their own personal inclinations? If appealing spaces for elderly citizens were to be created in familiar locations so as to foster interpersonal ties, how could this change the lives of the elderly?
In this session, we will hear the viewpoints of practitioners who have implemented pioneering initiatives in a variety of situations to create spaces of social inclusion (ibasho) for elderly citizens, as well as talks from the standpoint of local government; this will be a multi-faceted discussion on how local communities should embrace and encourage efforts to create spaces of social inclusion.
