Why Do Youths Vary Their Characters (“Chara”)?: Relating to Pluralized Self on Twitter


The purpose of the research is to clarify relation between the multipolarization of community and the usage of multi-“chara”, and to specify how it helps youths maintain good relationships. According to the latest investigation by Trend Lab, more than 40% of SNS users, between 20-30 years old, vary their characters, in both SNS and the real society, to suit each situation. To analyze how and why they use different characters for different communities, we carry out a survey for university students, whose SNS usage rate is high.
